General Information
- Why is the event generally called SIX DAYS?
The complete denomination is INTERNATIONAL SIX DAYS ENDURO (ISDE) and it is a yearly motorcycling event.
- Who sanctions the event?
The event is sanctioned by the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme -FIM -(Internatinal Motorcycling Federation) whose HQ is in Geneva, Switzerland
- How long has the event been going on?
The first edition of ISDE was held back in 1913, making it the oldest motorcycling event. Mexico will host the 85th Edition of the event
- How long has Mexico been participating in the event?
Mexico has a 30 year trajectory at ISDE
- How many countries participate?
A participation of over 40 countries and 550 athletes is expected for ISDE 2010
Race information
Motorcycles have to uphold the International Viena Convention of 1968, in which it was stated that all motorcycles need to have head and back lights, stop light and noise should not exceed 94 Dbs
It is a 6 day cross country race with over 200 kms per day. During the event, there will be 5 speed test special stages. Riders have to be below the fixed time set by the organization committee. Typically each race day will consist of over 7 hours.
According to the FIM regulations, the race has to be between 1,100 and 1,350 kms. overall.
NO. The rider, has to be able to fix any mechanical malfunction during all the 6 day race. Help is only allowed to refuel.
Although special tires are used for the event, (tires an be used in public roads and cities) and because of the hard conditions like rocks and mud, they have to be replaced constantly. This task needs also to be performed by the rider. Champion riders are able to to make 2 tire changes in less than 15 mins. which allows them to stay below the fixed event time for each day.
Final run is a Moto-Cross test with 30 to 40 rider heats. Grids are determined by the riders' time during the previous 5 days. Typically, you will get to see 10-14 MotoCross heats. At night, the trophy ceremony takes place. With all the preasure off, nothing but celebration and bonding takes place.
Riders, Categories and Trophies
- Are there different categories or classes?
There are 3 classes:
E1 2 stroke from 100cc to 125cc
4 stroke from 175cc to 250cc
E2 2 stroke from 175cc to 250cc
4 stroke from 250cc to 450cc
E3 2 stroke from 290cc to 500cc
4 stroke from 475cc to 650cc
For a rider to participate, he must be a part of one of the following teams:
Trophy Team.- 6 riders representing a country. The team has to compete in all 3 classess
Junior Trophy Team.- 4 riders younger than 23 representing a country. The team has to compete in al least 2 classes
Club Trophy.- 3 riders representing a MotoClub. No class restriction.
Individual competitors may be admitted depending on total number of competitors. - What are the awards for the ISDE?
World Trohpy is awarded to the 6 rider team with the best overall performance. The trophy is engraved with the riders' names and country along with previous winners. Winners do not keep the trophy.
Jr. World Trophy is awarded to the 3 rider team (younger than 23) with the best overall performance. Jr. World Trophy is also engraved with riders' names and country along with previous winners. Winners do not keep the trophy.
Special Trophy is awarded to the 3 rider team with best overall performance. Winners get to keep the Trophy.
Female Enduro Wold Cup Trophy is awarded to the best female team, following World trophies guidelines.
All second and third places from all categories are also awarded prizes.
ISDE is often called the Motorcycle Olimpiad due to the fact that riders from all over the world are awarded a gold, silver or bronze medal depending on their performance at the end of the event. At the beginning of the event, the Nations parade takes place.
- Are professionals allowed to race in the ISDE?
The ISDE is the only motor racing event which allows both professional and amateur riders to participate and compete under the exact same rules and times.
